On April 27, the first meeting of the experts on the European Heritage Label was held in Brussels. The EU latest initiative hopes to create a canon of the most important buildings and sites which commemorate and symbolise the European integration process. One of the four experts selected by the European Commission is Professor Jacek Purcha, the Director of the International Cultural Centre in Krakow for over 20 years. He is an eminent specialist in cultural heritage – its theory, philosophy and management. The experts’ task is to select and evaluate the proposals of buildings and sites which wish to be awarded with the European Heritage Label. In 2013 and 2014 every country of the European Union will be given an opportunity to submit four entities which will undergo evaluation and selection procedures. Since 2015, the number of submitted entities will be reduced to two per country.
