Backdrop Norway: Contemporary Architecture
Lecture by Nina Berre

Nina Bere is a director of an architecture unit at the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo. She is also one of the curators of the exhibition entitled Contemporary Norwegian architecture 2005–2010, currently on display at the ICC Gallery. Her lecture will address some of the major characteristics and tendencies currently present in the designs by Norwegian architects. The works by such design practices as Snohetta, Jensen & Skodvin, or Helen & Hard have not only “enriched” Norway, but have turned out to be the country’s export goods. The latter has been testified by such extraordinary edifices as the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kathmandu (by Kristin Jarmund), or the Element House in Seoul (by Rintala Eggertsson Architects). Respect for nature and materials used, sculpture-like thinking and functionality are what characterises Norwegian architecture whose many examples can now be seen at the ICC exhibition. A lecture by Nina Bere will surely provide one with some substantial and valuable commentary on the phenomenon.
Lecture delivered in English and simultaneously translated into Polish.
