Aleksander Gieysztor Award for prof. Jacek Purchla

The Leopold Kronenberg Foundation at Citi Handlowy has awarded Professor Jacek Purchla, art historian and economist, with Professor Aleksander Gieysztor Award. The laureate was distinguished for creating The International Cultural Centre in Kraków and for initiating interdisciplinary research within the field of national heritage theory. Award ceremony took place on the 1st of February in Royal Castle in Warsaw.

Professor Aleksander Gieysztor Award has been granted since 1999. It honours individuals and institutions who have been undertaking actions for the protection of Polish cultural heritage. Professor Jacek Purchla received the prestigious Prize from Sławomir S. Sikora, President of Citi Handlowy, Mrs Ewa Gieysztor, daughter of the Prize’s patron and from Professor Andrzej Rottermund, President of the Prize’s honorary collegium and director of the Royal Castle in Warsaw.

- We have decided to award Professor Jacek Purchla with Professor Aleksander Gieysztor Award in order to demonstrate our appreciation for his longstanding  input in promotion of cultural heritage, expressed by creation of The International Cultural Centre. We believe that his activity and founding The Academy of Heritage – first interdisciplinary postgraduate studies in the field of heritage preservation and management - are of a particular importance to shaping and promoting new approach regarding common cultural heritage – said Iwona Murphy, President of The Kronenberg Foundation at Citi Handlowy.
